4 causes of persistent stomach pain and burning feeling

Reasons for recurrent stomach pain and a burning sensation

Stomach problems are frequent in the winter, but if they persist despite all precautions, one of these four causes could be to blame.

Winter has arrived in full force, and as the cold wave continues to send shivers over northern India, people are complaining of a variety of health problems, including bodily discomfort, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, acidity, bloating, viral fever, and sore throat. Stomach aches are fairly prevalent in the winter and are commonly referred to as “cold stomachs” because blood vessels constrict during the winter, causing stomach aches. However, if your stomach pain persists despite taking all precautions and keeping your body warm, you should contact your doctor to rule out other causes of your stomach discomfort.

“With the change of the seasons and the rapid drop in temperature, many people are suffering from cold symptoms, headaches, and stomach problems. Winter can produce a ‘cold stomach’ because blood vessels contract, causing pressure and pain. While this is a frequent problem during this period, it is vital to realize that stomach pain and a burning sensation can arise for a variety of reasons “Dr. Ksheetij Kothari, Associate Consultant – Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospitals in Kharadi, Pune, agrees.

Here are some of the most common reasons for persistent stomach pain:

1. Ulcer in the stomach

Open sores in the esophageal lining are known to induce a burning feeling and continuous pain in the belly. Antacids or antibiotics are commonly used to treat it. Large or developed ulcers can cause internal bleeding and may necessitate an endoscopy for therapy.

2. Indigestion caused by acid

If it occurs occasionally, it may be a common occurrence in most people, but if it occurs frequently, it may be a serious sickness known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD can irritate the lining of the esophagus, resulting in bleeding and scarring if not addressed swiftly. Doctors may offer a variety of GERD therapies, such as dietary changes, medications, surgery, and endoluminal therapy.

3. Gastroenteritis

A burning sensation in the abdomen, coupled with heartburn, indigestion, and nausea, is a common symptom of gastritis. This is a minor condition that improves rapidly with rest and therapy.

4. Food Reactions

Some foods, such as spicy foods, alcohol, and milk products, might produce stomach burning. It can also occur if the food consumed is tainted or prepared in unsanitary conditions, resulting in an upset stomach.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE CAUSE OF YOUR STOMACH ACHE?

“It might be difficult to determine what is causing a stomach ache during the winter months, but neglecting it can aggravate the symptoms and lead to more difficulties. As a result, it is critical to be aware of the many causes of stomach aches and to take suitable efforts to address them. Long-term stomach pain for any reason can have an effect on other parts of the body, including ulcers, inflammation, and some types of cancer “Dr. Kothari explains.
