The world’s smallest singer, Abdu Rozik, is becoming popular on Bigg Boss 16, which debuted on Colors TV on October 1. The reality show’s cutest competitor, who appears to be around 8 or 9, is actually 19 years old and 94 centimetres tall. Abdu Rozik, who comes from a small town in Tajikistan, was born Savriqul Muhammed Roziqi to Mr Savriqul and Mrs Rooh Afza. Developing hormone insufficiency caused Abdu to stop growing as a child. He was also found to have rickets, but his family was unable to pay for his medical care.
“The anterior lobe of the pituitary gland secretes growth hormone, commonly known as somatotropin. Its stimulation promotes bodily expansion. Dwarfism and small stature are the results of GH insufficiency. A lack of the hormone’s production or a genetic mutation that results in improper growth hormone production can both cause deficiencies. Rarely do cells have an inherent insensitivity to growth hormone, “explains Dr Ashok Gawdi, a paediatric physician at Apollo hospitals in Navi Mumbai.
“Insufficient production of growth hormone (GH) by the pituitary gland results in growth hormone insufficiency. Damage to the pituitary gland or the hypothalamus, another gland, can result in GH shortage. Congenital injuries can happen before, during, or after birth (acquired). The body’s principal endocrine gland is the pea-sized pituitary gland, which is situated at the base of the brain. GH is required to promote bone and other tissue growth. The reason for GH shortage is frequently unknown (idiopathic), “in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, Dr Sanjeev Managoli, Senior Consultant Paediatrician, Cloudnine Group of Hospitals.

According to Dr Managoli, a child is more susceptible to GH deficit if they suffer a brain injury, have a brain tumour, or have received head radiation therapy.
“The size of newborns with isolated GH insufficiency is often normal, but the first two years of life show signs of growth retardation. The pituitary also secretes 16 additional hormones, thus a shortage in one could cause additional indications and symptoms “Dr Gawdi explains.
A youngster who experiences a brain injury has a brain tumour, or has had radiation therapy to the head is more likely to have GH insufficiency, according to Dr Managoli.
“The size of newborns with isolated GH insufficiency is often normal, but growth retardation becomes apparent in the first two years of life. The pituitary also secretes 16 additional hormones, therefore a lack of one hormone may cause other signs and symptoms “asserts Dr Gawdi.
According to Dr Gawdi, diagnosis is typically confirmed by viewing an X-ray in which the bone age is younger than the chronological age and the levels of growth hormone.
“A doctor must rule out other illnesses in order to identify GH insufficiency, including genetic problems, thyroid hormone deficiencies, kidney disease, and typical growth variations such as familial low height. The doctor will conduct a physical examination in addition to asking about the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and family medical history. Over several months, the growth and health are monitored “Dr Managoli explains.
* Blood tests to measure the levels of growth hormone and other relevant hormones. The blood tests may occasionally follow the administration of a substance to your child that would ordinarily increase growth hormone levels.
* A left hand and wrist X-ray is taken to determine the child’s bone age.
* Brain imaging. to view the Pituitary gland and any further growths or abnormalities
According to Dr Gawdi, recombinant DNA technology is used to create synthetic injectable growth hormones. He guarantees that youngsters who receive synthetic hormones do well and grow to a height that is close to normal. He continues by saying that synthetic GH is exceedingly expensive and should be taken frequently.
“Results can frequently be observed 3 to 4 months following the start of treatment. The course of treatment lasts for a number of years, often until late adolescence, when growth is complete. The likelihood that a kid will grow to a normal or nearly-normal adult height that follows his or her family pattern increases with the timing of treatment, “Dr Managoli explains. He does, however, issue a warning: “Not all children respond well to growth hormone treatment, and GH therapy does not cause a person to grow to be taller than his or her parents.”
What problems could arise from a child’s GH deficiency?
Untreated GH insufficiency can prevent a kid from growing to their typical adult height.
“Children who are shorter than their peers could be depressed or have low self-esteem. It’s crucial to discuss these issues with your child and their medical professional. For you and your child, they may suggest counselling or support groups. Discuss your child’s possible adult height with their medical professional. Together with your child’s medical team, develop a continuous management strategy for your child’s condition “Finally, Dr Managoli says.
