Fitness expert Namrata Purohit claims that Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut are the real Pilates girls.
“All of the famous people I’ve trained have been very industrious and disciplined, which has gotten me my job early! Every single one of them is incredibly focused, “The author and Pilates instructor added
Push your limits and let go of your inhibitions, stated Namrata Purohit in one of her Instagram postings. Reach new heights, there are no boundaries. This lyrical, sing-song caption appears to be her way of life.
When Purohit was a youngster, a catastrophic injury led her into the world of Pilates, and she hasn’t looked back since. Pilates was actually the “closest thing to magic [she] experienced,” according to her.
The 28-year-old, who has trained actors Sara Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and others, recently spoke with indianexpress.com about the fundamentals of Pilates and common misconceptions about it, as well as the challenges she faced at the beginning of her career, how to ensure overall fitness, and which celebrity she enjoys working out with the most.
Excerpts:
Since you have been doing Pilates for a while, tell us about your experience. What sparked your interest and how did you get started?
When I was fifteen, I began Pilates. My knee was completely ruined by a terrible fall I took off a horse. I had to get surgery right away. I tried a number of things after the surgery to get healthy and feel pain-free, but nothing appeared to completely restore my health.
I pleaded to be accepted onto my father Samir Purohit’s Pilates course that was being held in Mumbai at the time. I was completely pain-free four days into the course, which was the first time in a year! I even picked up squash again and competed in the national championship that year. Pilates was the thing that felt the most magical to me, and I believed that if it could benefit me, it could benefit a lot of other people.
What difficulties and obstacles did you encounter in the beginning?
The studio’s initial aim was to raise awareness of the workout genre. There were several myths about Pilates; for example, some people believed it was solely for stretching or that it was only for ladies. These myths have to be gradually dispelled in order to persuade people to give them a try. The good news is that after they gave it a try, they couldn’t turn around!
Which other type of exercise, outside Pilates, do you adore and would suggest to others?
I adore practicing electrical muscle stimulation (EMS). It seems to me to be a very clever approach to train and get the most out of your body in a short amount of time without having any negative effects on the joints. If done properly, it may be very good for people of all fitness levels, including those who may need rehab, sports personalities, and more. It exercises the entire body at once.
Depending on each person’s goals and requirements, it is a 20-minute workout performed once or twice a week.
What are some additional important health variables to think about besides exercise?
In addition to exercise, adequate nutrition, rest, and excellent sleep are important health considerations. To stay healthy and achieve your goals, it’s crucial to strike a balance between these various factors.
